Now through April 28

Sunday: 12 - 9 pm

For those who'd like to meet and discuss,
I will be on site:

Friday, April 19, 6 - 9 pm
Sunday, April 21, 3 - 6 pm
Saturday, April 27, 7 - 10 pm

Many DMV residents will have encountered Artomatic before--it has been around for 25 years! Known for bringing together hundreds of local artists to show their work in vacant office spaces, this Artomatic is VERY PERSONAL to me. I worked in this building for nine years before I was a photographer -- and what's more: I am showing my work in the small space that was my office for most of those years.

It was in that small office that I worked with a team at the Urban Institute to provide policy analysis about health care reform proposals. And I was in that office during the time i was first exploring my "side-interest" in photography. Part of the exhibit addresses the experience of transitions and split attentions as I began to consider a transition to life as an independent artist. I invite you to stop by and have a look at my work and that of hundreds of other DMV artists!

The Phillips Collection is currently marking its 100th year and is returning to the tradition of invitational exhibits highlighting the work of local artists. Museum founder Duncan Phillips hosted such invitationals from 1935 - 1950. For this event, curators asked local artists to submit artwork relating in some way to the upending of daily life since April 2020. One of my photographs was selected: a photograph of a spontaneous vigil at the Supreme Court shortly after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was announced.

From the Museum's press release:

[Curators] reviewed over 1,300 artworks submitted by more than 800 artists, assessing works on their artistry, originality, and thematic relevance. The exhibition, comprising 65 works that span painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and video, will be organized into five themes: Innocence Interrupted, Days of Reckoning and the Right to “Be,” Bearing Witness, Introspection and Reflection, and Hope and Healing. The 64 artists are ages 19 to 84, work across styles, and are at varying stages of their careers, including those receiving their first museum exhibition.

Group Exhibition "Photography"

Long View Gallery
1234 Ninth St NW,
Washington DC
Through October 8 2017
Wed - Sat 11 - 6; Sun 12-5**

If you saw my work at Long View's "Refresh" exhibit early this year or my contributions to Kreeger Museum's "Re-Vision" exhibition, you know I've been experimenting with novel ways to present large photographs. My contributions to this new exhibit carry these ideas further with a new mural from Union Station as well as studies from St Elizabeths and the Lincoln Memorial. A piece from my Kreeger Museum exhibition--a 360-degree panoramic split over three panels and mounted to shaped metal--is also featured.

Group Exhibition "Refresh VII"

I am participating in Long View's group exhibition with what could be the most unusual photographs I've ever exhibited. I've printed this mural in an innovative way that makes the gold leafing glow and glimmer in a lively way.

I am pleased to have five pieces in this group exhibition opening Thursday night!  Most are new photos I've never shown before, including the above which is from one of the most striking historic preservation sites I've studied. The style of presentation for these prints is something I've wanted to try for a long time. The theme gave me a reason... Stop by and let me know what you think.

Union Station restoration

Union Station, Main Hall
Washington DC
Through November 11

It was my privilege to photograph the late stages of restoration work at Union Station's historic Main Hall over the last year.  To celebrate the opening of the expansive Main Hall the station has organized an extensive exhibit of its history.  They drew on my photographs to chronicle the most recent restorations.  My series is featured in the southeast area of the Main Hall.  I am very proud of the series and hope you will stop by to have a look.
